im trying to reinstall windows. I have been having some trouble with viruses and crap and had to reformat and reinstall windows a couple times. I am trying to do it again and it won't find the disc and won't boot from it. Is it possible that the disc knows how many times i have booted from it? is that even possible?

The disc is not care of how many times you reformat it ,if you want to boot from it ,you need to install the driver on it ,it is possible that you reformat the driver on the disc. And i thing you need not to reformat a disc twice .

Which version of Windows? and do you have a genuine Windows installation CD? And have you set the BIOS setup to boot from the CD, etc.

Well I finally got it to work. I have Windows XP Professional and I have a genuine copy. I don't know what was wrong. Oh well.

I also had another question. I reinstall WinXP and boot it up and everything seems to be working fine, but I can't get any sound out of any sort of speaker system. I have tried several different speakers and none are giving me any sound. Anybody have any suggestions?

Check Device Manager to see if there are any problem devices with yellow punctuation marks since its likely you need to install the appropriate sound drivers.
