This PC is a secondary PC for the family
NOT THE SAME PC WITH "Intteresting Problem"
We got a BSOD with the error "kernel" error or "fatal" error;
Then when i turned it off and back on, it made a clicking niose and DID NOT POST
After about 5 min, i turned it back on and it came up to windows without a problem
SPEC:
PENT III 966Mhz
384 MB RAM
WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION
DELL DEMENSION 4100 "White" (really old style)
36 Gig HD
Nvidia Geforce 2 GTS
When i oppened the case up, it was REALLY DUSTY;
would this have been caused by a large piece of dust?
Or a dusty heat sink?
Or anything else- the warrenty on this PC is gone- and i would like to fix it today
Overheating due to dusty components can cause all sorts of problems. If you cleaned the dust off all of the heatsinks, fans(incl. the power supply fan), and inside the case, then see if that solved the problem.
Also, check the CPU and system temperatures with a MB monitor utility. If the system does not have one installed, then d/l this one:

Well, it happened again
We are backing up all important data;
Here is the BSOD error:
KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR
Technical:
***stop 0x0000007A (0xC03857E4, 0XC000000E, OxE15F9000, 0x0BF23880)
It apparently has been happening for a year now
PS: i dusted it, but the problem returned

Connecting a hard disk drive in slave only mode leads to system halt during resume from standby...
and you receive the following KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR stop error message: (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330100)

For Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment (PATA) hard disks, configure your disk drive as master only. For Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) hard disks, connect the hard disk cable to a master channel SATA connector on the motherboard.
Connect another device as a master, such as another disk drive or a CD drive or DVD drive.
Change your PATA and SATA IDE cable even if the cable does not appear worn.
Install Windows on a new hard disk because it is possible that your hard disk or your Windows installation may be corrupted.
Just great
Well, it is 7 years old....
Thanks!

"may be corrupted"
Or then again, may not. :)
Do you think that lot applies?
This is where a backup can [yet again] save your bacon. :D :cool:

Yeah, i never touched the HDD, and it is the original HDD that came with the system-
AND IT MADE A "CLICKING" noise...
looks like to me that the HDD is failing

Clicking usually means backup and shopping time. :(

Can't complain too much about 7 years of service. :)
