If you've been building PCs for 3 years, you likely have acquired much of the hardware knowledge required for the test. Make sure you brush up on basic networking and the A+ exam also requires knowledge of WIN 9.x and 2000.
If you want to get an idea of where you stand, take a practice test here http://www.bebits.com/app/1352.
Good Luck.

Hello bb,
The exams are not difficult “IF” you have prepared and are ready to take them. Your three years of preparation is a part of the process. I took the exams last month, however, the O/S part which I took was the older systems, so be sure to prepare for the new exams on O/S.
I basically used two books for the exam preparation, Michael Myers and Jean Andrews books. They are both excellent authors. However, remember, there is new material on the exams, and you only want the books with the latest material in them. As to practice exams, I like the Aplus Omega site. It has 10 practice exams, and they are over the newer material. http://www.geocities.com/aplus_practice_exams/pg_01.htm Another site with several exam examples is http://www.mcseguide.com/aplus.htm . You need to also check out CompTia’s factual information for what they expect too. http://www.comptia.org/ . Oh,,and one other good place to visit often is http://www.2000tutor.com/cgi-bin/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number=21&SUBMIT=Go and of course, the pc guide and the forums are very helpful, and you might want to check out the new chat for IT professionals, for that see the main page of the pc guide. That’s about all I know about this process, other than as I was told by someone here in the guide, you can do it, and don’t over stress. That was definitely good advice, don’t over stress,,,you too can do this.
