I just built a new PC and am fairly new to setting everything up. I have everything together but I need to update the bios now. I don't have windows installed on it at the moment but plan on installing windows xp. Do i need to create a bootable floppy on a different PC or can I do it on my newly built one? Also, should I install windows first and then deal with the bios? Thanks for any help!

After building the pc and starting for the first time does it post (1 beep) ?
Why do you need to update your BIOS, are you having problems ?
You won't be able to make a bootable BIOS update disk unless you have an OS installed and configured. You would need to make the floppy on a known working PC, and then flash BIOS on the new one.
Why bother though, unless there is some specific problem? Generally you would install the OS and then update BIOS if necessary.

As a general rule on BIOS updating
IF it's not broke, then DONT fix it.
Unless the updated BIOS has a bug fix, or updated for newer hardware, then you are much better to leave it.
