On a machine that's not connected to the net and running XP home.
It is slow to load the desktop icons, the taskbar appears and just a bare desktop for about 25 sec's. Other than that the machine doesn't seem slow in operation.
I ran msconfig and in the startup tab their is nothing selected, did a check disc and defrag and no difference.
The machine is connected to a small network (3 pc's) none have access to the net.

Any idea's to check out?

TIA

Have you tried this tip>>

INCREASE ICON CACHE SPEED

THIS SHOULD SPEED UP ICONS ON DESKTOP WHEN STARTING COMPUTER.

[HKEY LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFT, MICROSOFT, WINDOWS, CURRENT VERSION, EXPLORER

I CREATED A NEW KEY (STRING VALUE) CALLED
MAXCACHEDICONS AND MODIFIED IT TO 8192
