hello All,
I have just done a clean install of XP Home and can not get any sound.I have 3 yellow question marks under other devices in Device manager:-
Multimedia audio controller,
Multimedia controller,
usb controller.
The usb webcam is working on video but not sound. The sound test tells me that there is another device recording sound but nothing else is connected.
Under sounds and audio devices in device manager it tells me "no audio device connected".Speakers are connected and turned on.
Under SOund Playback, Default Audio, the box is greyed out.
I think it was AC Vinyl something before the reinstall.
Motherboard is MSI KM400-8235,
AMD Athlon 1800+
thanks for any help,
Wombil.

It appears you still need to install the sound card drivers. If this is onboard sound the drivers are normally on the disk furnished by the motherboard manufacturer. If not onboard, they would be found either through a download from the soundcard manufacturer, or on a disk provided to you with the sound card...

XP carries many drivers furnished by various component manufacturers...some not. But, it is always a good idea to get the updated drivers anyway...many problems are addressed that simply supercede the drivers included with the products...
