I use a Dell Truemobile 1180 wireless usb adapter and long story short, the computers in the taskbar near the clock has just dissappeared...

I went to network connections and its not there, like my computer isn't recognizing the adapter but yet i can get online.

It just disappeared this afternoon, didnt do anything different.

Right click My Network Places and click Properties, right click on your Wireless LAN and click Properties, and check the box next to "Show the icon when connected.."

When I was connected, I'd have a icon that said my speed and my connection strength...That icon just dissappeared and it did the same in the My Network Places folder. Just gone...Its almost like my computer doesn't recongnize the internet connect. I'm online and no where does it say i'm connected.

I use AIM and it tells me my connection is lost all the time and i'm still viewing webpages. Its so weird.

Well if you only have a wireless connection and you can surf the connection is there. The only thing that comes to mind is a security application that is interferring with the association between the GUI and the device. Right click on My computer and click Manage, click on Event Viewer and then Application and System and see if there is anything there related to your wirless connection. From a cammand line, Start, Run type cmd and hit enter. Type ipconfig /all you should see your wireless and wired LAN settings. Do they both have an IP address? I would reboot the machine and see if the issue clears.
