I have a Wndows XP computer and I put it in stand-by mode and I pushed the power button to get it to start back up and it's not doing anything now. When it was in stand-by mode for the short period, the blue power button was flashing and when I pressed the power button again, Windows did not start up. The blue power button is still on and a red light under it. Also on the monitor, the light that is supposed to be green, is orange. I can't get my PC to start back up again. Can anyone please tell me what to do? Do I just unplug the whole thing?

Thanks! I pushed the start button for a longer time and it finally shut down, then I pushed it again to get it to start back up. Though, I don't understand why it's not going to the main screen. This is what it says on the screen that it stops on:
"Phoenix-AwardBIOS v6. 00PG, An Energy Star Ally

Press DEL to enter Setup"
I tried pushing delete and enter, which did nothing.

Don't push delete. See if it boots up all the way. Then I wouldn't use stand by anymore unless its a laptop. The controls for stand by are un Dsiplay Properties, right click your desktop and click Properties, click Screen Saver tab and look at the Power Settings, look at what your machine does when you hit the power button on the Advanced tab. Here is a link to explain the various settings.

I'm using a laptop right now and my regular computer is the one that won't start up right. After I got it to start backup again, the screen that I described came up and I just checked again on my regular computer and the same screen is still showing up. Is there any way to get my regular computer to get to the main screen and start up right instead of being stuck on that same screen?

Was there any recent changes to your system i.e. windows updates, Software install/uninstall etc?
Please provide Make and model of your system.

Nope, I just put it on stand-by for a short time and thought I had to push the power button to get it to start back up. It's a Windows XP Pro. It was put together by my brother and he used mostly parts he got from Dell. It is not a genuine version of Windows, though.

It is not a genuine version of Windows, though.
No comment really though I agree with variable that power managment is best disabled altogether. It's a recurring problem area on many PCs.

Hmm, I didn't do anything with the computer and now it turned off and won't turn back on. The monitor light is also orange. Does anyone know what is maybe wrong with it?

Nevermind about what I said in my last reply. My computer is fine now.
