A while ago I bought an A+study guide which stated that the exam only covered OSs up to 95. I then found out that the exam was finally being updated to include 98,2k, and ME. Then a friend told me that the change was delayed and the test only covered up to 98. Who can tell me what the test covers for sure and when the updated test will become standard. The Comptia website has proven to be unreliable.

Before I took the old A+ Exam our instructors told us that the new exam, which was due to be in effect after March 30th, is supposed to include Win '98 and 2000. I don't know of any delays or other set-backs, but I do know that they (CompTia) are prone to changing their minds a lot, so you may want to call a certified testing site (like a local tech./ vo-tech school).

The A+ now covers I believe Win2000 and 2000 Server

I started A+ today and it covers DOS, WIN 9x, and WIN 2K. There's not a lot of WIN 2K covered, and to my Knowledge, no WINME. I've spoken to techs who have just taken the A+ OS exam and it seems to be a mixed bag of DOS and WIN 9x.

You won't see Win 2k server on A+. DOS is still a a big part, especially getting DOS programs to function in a Windows environment. I think Win 3.x is completely gone, but I'll tell you for sure by the end of this week http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
Most of the WinME stuff seems to be thrown in under the Win 9x umbrella; CompTIA doesn't seem to value WinME either.
Although the focus is shifted to the "newer" OS's, there's plenty of really old hardware out there and the test acknowledges that. Although it might seem like cavemen used a 486 years ago, hit the way back machine and dig in.
I stressed this on a previous post (although it was acknowledging the CompTIA Network + exam) that use the most recent study materials. CompTIA is past the grace period for the older 1998 objectives; the 2001 objectives are your only choice now. As CompTIA is gathering test data, the current A+ test is not in the "adaptive" format - I believe the CompTIA site says they will change to the adaptive format by 3rd or 4th quarter this year...
