A Network in the Real World

I get the feeling that many people who are interested in entering the field of IT (Information Technology), and specifically networking, have no idea of what goes on.

Here is an interesting article (and forum) about the recent outage at slashdot.org: OSDN (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=01/06/27/124207) For me, two things stand out: the need for good planning, and the need for good documentation.

Although I should point out that slashdot was a specific and systematic target for a persistent hacker. They are VERY well protected and organised over there and someone spent a long time getting n and doing the damage. A good warning against over-confidence though, even for smaller scale techies...
