Hello all, my goal is to complete the A+ exam before Sep20 (my 27th b day) I have been scoring 80% or better on all practice exams. However these exam sims include Dos and 3.1, which I have no experience, I didn't start using pcs untill Win95 came out. My question is, should I forget about learning DOS and 3.1 for exam purposes? Anyone taken the latest exam? I look forward to any advice.
Peace 2 you

Hi, Revjapaca
If you visit Here (http://www.comptia.com/certification/aplus/all_about_aplus.htm) there are two PDF files you can download that will give you an idea of the content of the A+ exam.
I think the DOS part remains but the 3.1 has been dropped.
Anyway (IMHO) I think learning DOS is very important because it will be around for a good while yet.
Good Luck! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey Revjapaca, you can think of DOS as learning how to drive a manual speed car, don't really need it, the automotive industry would probably like to get rid of it and have you drive only more expensive automatics; but if you know how to use a stick you can operate any vehicle on the road. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
So definately study it, believe me-despite what MS might want you to believe you will need to know it in order to work in the real world, most companies ( even fortune 500 ) rarely run the newest OS's, strictly becuase it's expensive for them to pay for liscensing-and DOS, WinNT have ben around for a few years now, so they are " proven " technology.
Besides, it's the most stable product MS has ever put out! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Again, I agree with everyone. Don't let your skills with DOS slide. For myself I keep a 386 with DOS as the o/s just so I don't loose touch with DOS commands, navigating the hard drive, moving files, installing hardware/drivers/programs etc. It may seem like a waste of time but when you least expect it a 386 comes across your bench with win3.1 and your expected to deal with it and 386's are virtually free to build these days. Garage sales have served me well.
Good luck on the exam!

I recently took both A+ exams, and failed both by one question. There is a fair amount of DOS questions. There is also alot of Windows 2000 questions. They are conventional tests this time not adaptive meaning Hardware has 70 questions and OS 71 questions. The new pass rate is 77% and 72% up from the 66% and 65% of the past. I will be writing both exams again sometime in the next two weeks and will let you know if they have changed to adaptive yet.
