A few years ago, It started making this clickety clack sound. Eventually, it would get a pretty good beat going and the system would cease functioning. Reformat and no probs till eventually, there she goes again. And over the years, it happened more frequently and at accelerating rythum untill finally, Ka-Klack, Ka-Klack, non stop like a jogger's heart beat. It won't reformat, it won't even be recognized. Can this be repaired or is it garbage. I've already given up on my oodles of data, but it was a pretty huge drive and fun to have around. I tried hooking it up external through USB, I tried formatting it Mac and back to PC again, and now the thing is just a buzzing paper weight. Can I go ahead and smash this thing, cause I really want to.

If there is data you don't want to lose you can pay a professional to retrieve some data. It is very expensive though.

I would get out the hammer on what has been effectively a test drive for some time. Would never trust a "clackety drive". Would actually not even trust a quiet drive - any of them can go ends up.
