I have an Enermax Noisetaker II, 600W. I need to do some leak testing with a liquid cooling circuit, so I want to jumpstart the PSU without putting power into the motherboard. I'm familiar with the method...connecting the 4th & 6th pins, etc. and I have done it successfully with my last PSU, a Noisetaker I. But this time, when I jump it, the PSU just clicks repeatedly and doesn't power anything, except its own fans. Should I have everything plugged in when I do this (as I did last time) or not?

Switchmode PSU needs some load to work at all. They usually have an internal resistor to do that, but it may not be enough.

I was afraid of that. So I guess I'd be better off just connecting everything...vid cards, HDDS, everything except the mobo.

Usually, connecting a hard drive should give enough load to let the PSU switch on.

I thought so too, but even with one hard drive and the pump, a Laing DDC-1 connected, it wouldn't power either. Just CLICK-CLICK-CLICK....and the PSU fans would turn on.
