i was wondering if it was at all possible to use a computer running linux to share files with computers using xp?

i used to have 3 comps linked through lan and i just made a network drive on 1 of the comps and the other comps could access files such as music/video/files through that newtork drive.

however one of the comps i reformatted to use linux, and i was wondering is it still possible at all setup a network drive on the linux comp that can communicate with the xp comps?

btw, the linux comp is running fedora 5.

Yes it is. I share files on my Suse box with my XP machines and vice versa. I'm not familiar with fedora so I will let others handle the specifics.

Sharing with windows is done using the same program, SAMBA, regardless of distribution. The only difference might be in any front end apps used and how the distro wants you to configure it.

In Knoppix just enter smb:/ in Konqueror and follow through to the network shares to see the WinXP PCs. I guess its similar in other distros but I just wish networking was as simple with the different versions of Windows! Samba is cool and if you want to make the Linux folders available to the network you should first fire up the Samba Server Utility.
