Welcome to the http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif forums.
It most likely SDRAM, but not necessarily. You can pull out the ram, if it has two notches it is SDRAM, if it has only one notch it is DDR. There is also sometimes a sticker on the ram that will tell you what type, size and speed it is.
Post your make/model so we can look up the specs on it and give you more exact advice.

A quick Google tells us it is a PC-100/PC-133 compatible 168-pin SD-RAM.

Yep 123456 is right on.
Have a look here for guaranteed compatible modules. http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Pavilion+8755C
Your max is 512MB. 256 in each slot. You will have to get rid of your 128MB so you can install a 256MB stick if you really want to upgrade. So you will only gain an extra 128MB. Will it help? Depends on which windows you are running and what you do with the system?
