Sounds like you have a bad memory chip on your hands. That's not too unusual. The weird sounds you hear when you try the new chip by itself is probably the BIOS complaining about the memory being bad or unusable. Take the chip back and get another one. You might also just check your BIOS settings to see if they need to be tweaked to accomodate the new memory in some way.

Thanks for your help Dale but when I bought that chips they tested it and it works fine. Are you saying that I need to set up the BIOS in CMOS after fixing the new chips before booting up...

Possible you got the wrong type of memory?

Roel,

I have an older i486DX4-S/100MHz machine which I am continually upgrading with more RAM, newer & faster HDs etc. Experience has taught me to always take my tower with me when procuring. I let the supplier install it for me (only a few $$$ more) then boot my system & check everything is running ok before I part with my hard earned.

Is it possible to take it back to the where u bought it & get some after sales service?

Best of luck......Son of Zeus.

Another thing I thought of is maybe you snagged a cable or something while installing the memory and now the disk doesn't work. When you say windows doesn't boot, exactly how far in the boot cycle do you get before it stops? What is the last message/screen you see? As Charles indicates, could be the wrong type memory, but if you see the 64 MB test working, probably something else and the only thing making sense is you pull a cable loose or something similar.

Thanks for all of you GUYS... Dale when I booted my PC with both new and old chips I reach to the point that windows logo is coming but It just hung up and some times it takes me to the selection of safe mode but it never continue even thru the safe mode. I haven't touch any cable while fixing the the new chips. Thanks again to all of you

Well, if it boots o.k. with just the old chips and doesn't boot with the new and old ones together, then either the chip is bad or as Charles indicated, you have the wrong type of chip. You might try check the BIOS settings and set the memory settings to default to see if that helps. Some of the timing options can definitely bite you.

Hi Roel
Not sure this will help you but this is the event that happen to me.
I was working on a Computer that used 32meg "FPM" 72 pin Simms and I wanted to add another set of 32 Megs of ram. So I purchased the ram from a well know supplier and the ram arrived at my door 1week later.
When I installed the new set of ram sticks the system lock up; the ram was not FPM (fast page memory)
But EDO memory and on this computer they could not be mixed.

· Sometimes changing the order (in their banks) of the ram helps
· Check your motherboard stations, were they mount to the case, make sure they are not grounding out against the case
· Make sure cables are attached completely at both ends
Hope this helps
Dan

Thanks again to all of you Guys. I just wanted to add more info regarding my RAM problem. As I checked my new chips it is clearly say 32MB SDRAM. and I beleived it's same like my old chip PC100. I read my mother board manual ang it is saying PC 100& 133 compatible. I also tried swapping it in a different slot but only the old chip is working. Im not quite sure how to deal with BIOS since its a critical one Im affraid to changed any setting.

you say the people you bought it from tested it, but did you see them test it or are you taking what they said as gospel? I have bought "tested parts" and gotten something totally different then what was "tested". If the dealer is worth a darn, they will test it in front of you if you tell them how you have tested it at home. the in person store I deal with shows me for free, which is the way it should be. That card of ram is not working. Get money back or have them prove to you it works.

Roel,

can only agree with ReddDogg & others on this one. Sounds very suss. Return it to wherever u bought it from & let them sort it out.

Shalom.......Son of Zeus.

P.S. Take That Tower/Desktop With U & Get Them To Install The RAM & Boot Your System As Proof. Like Most Things: “The Proof Of The Pudding Is In The Eating”.

Thanks Guys I got some good new and Bad news regarding my RAM I manage to fixed it but when in boot up It say there is no changed in my RAM capacity. Unlike before it is showing right but windows doesn't boot up Do you think Its just a dummy RAM what Im having now.. If it is bad ram I should got that sounds again like before at this time that chip is fixed in my PC but Im not sure if it is worth or not....Bythe way I changed some setting in my BIOS like what you guys have told me. I enable the SDRAM precharged control...

I think you just need to run that chip back to the supplier along with your system and have them give you another chip and install it right there to check it out.
