Ok.. this could be interesting..

I have an IBM Thinkpad 730E or 760E? something like that.. with Windows 95. Yes, it still exists XD

anyway.. i think it has a problem and may be dying...

It has been an awesome laptop.. never freezing (can windows 95 even freeze?) and never causing probs ever.

Today however, it has been.

My computer just got fixed from a virus issue.. and so i reinstalled my home network thing..

(i checked my laptop for the virus, and there was none)

Upon starting it up, it froze on the "windows 95 Microsoft Internet Explorer" screen..

i thought this was odd, but shrugged it off..
so everything was going fine.. i decided to relocate to my room.. was talking on AIM and the mouse froze along with the whole computer.. very odd again..

I turned it off, then back on.. When it starts up, it makes a beep.. this time it made the beep but it held the note out.. and didnt start up..
turned it on and off a few more times.. same thing..

i turned it off.. opened it up.. took the HD out and then pushed it back in..

turned it back on.. and it started up fine.. got back on aim, froze again..

somethings definately up now.. so i turn it off and back on.. it makes the noise again (it is NOT a grinding noise.. but the internal beep noise)

pull the HD out, push it back in.. it works.. so i start backing up my files.. moving them from my laptop to my PC via the network..

upon moving them, the screen went totally black.. and nothing worked.. so i assumed it froze..

turned it off.. turned back on.. starting moving some more.. and it did it again..

I think i have MOST of my data backed up... but

Every time i start it back up, it takes longer and longer to boot up...

what could it be?

Is my hard drive failing?? (it IS like 13 years old..)

how much longer will it last???

will taking it to a comp shop be able to do anything?

thanks guys :3

Hard drive, memory, motherboard, power - and other hardware - all could be implicated.

You are getting abnormal beeps at startup so you might be able to track down what the code means from Toshiba support.

The HDD itself should be accessible in another PC if the correct adapter is used and if you have further problems getting your data off it.

Going back and forth from a comp shop is soon going to cost you as much as a new bottom-end modern laptop.

Continuous beeping....System board failure
