I had some problems with my computer and somehow got into the BIOS settings. I was looking at them and enabled the user password and entered a password. After doing that I wish I had not done so. Now I cannot get it disabled? When I go to BIOS setting the only thing I can do is change user password. How do I disable the password. I do not need one and many time restart my computer and walk away. Now when I come back it is just waiting for me to input a password.
This is not an XP Windows user password. This is a BIOS one that is prompting me to input a password during the boot up process.
It depends on your BIOS, but there should be an option in the advanced settings for this. It'll probably be labeled something alone the lines of "Security option".
You can set it to ask for a password only when you enter the BIOS setup screen or every time the PC is booted (Setup -or- System).

Thanks. That worked. I am the only one using my home computer and do not want nor do I need a password when booting up. :)

"do not want nor do I need a password when booting up"
Same here...
Which is why I "hibernate" [and "resume"] my Win2000Pro system rather than "Shut down" and Startup.
It takes much less time to do this than to reload Windows anew [AND NO PASSWORD IS NEEDED].
There's also the advantage that you can hibernate with certain windows open, and they will be there when you resume the system.
I also make image backups with the system hibernated.
When those are restored and the PC started, Windows is in the state it was in when hibernated before the image backup was made.
INTERESTING! :)

In some cases you can go to BIOS setup page where you select the password, and backspace it out save and exit tha there won't be a password anymore. You can also clear the CMOS to remove it.
