Just built a 750 duron with Shuttle ak12 system. Have 6.4g set as primary master and 2.1g set as primary slave. Hard drives are on the same ribbon cable. System has been booting and working fine for the last few weeks until I tried to remove the primary slave hard disk. System software is on the primary master and I've removed all data from the primary slave. I've turned the machine off. I disconnect the ribbon cable and power connector from the primary slave. I power it back up and the system gives me a boot disk drive error. "Please insert system disk and press enter" appears. I tried the re-auto detect idea and I've gone into the bios and told the bios that there isn't a primary slave HD. Any suggestions???
System info:
AMD 750mhz Duron
Shuttle AK12 M/B
128mb ram
6.4g Western Digital primary slave
2.1g Maxtor primary slave
Phillips CD-RW secondary master
Enlight 250W mid tower
3DFX voodoo 3 pci video card
HSP 56K micro modem
On board sound

What is the current boot order?
Are you sure that there isn't a disk in the floppy drive?
Are you sure the drive specs are corrct in BIOS?

The boot order is hd0, hd1, and cdrom as far as I remember. I wasn't clear on which drive should be designated as hd0 hd1 or hd2. Primary master as hd0 or hd1? I can delete primary slave out of the boot sequence as far as I understand. Thanks for the reply. Gary

Hey Guys, Just dug out the information for my 6.4g Western Digital and I think I found the info I needed to solve my boot-up problem. I didn't realize the jumper settings would be different for a primary master with primary slave setup as opposed to a primary master only setup. I thought I could leave the primary master hard disk jumper set to master but Western Digital info shows it jumpered differently when its the only drive in the system. Thanks, Gary http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

You beat me to it...jumpers will do it every time, we had a very similar problem on the IRC channel last night...
Glad you got it figured out.
I'll be moving this one to FAQ, seems like a good one to put there.
