Hi,

I am having problems with my Toshiba Tecra A2 and want to do a factory restore to make it as it would be when brand new. Problem is that I bought the laptop 2nd hand and I dont have a recovery dvd/cd or hdd partition.

If anyone has an image of this recovery dvd or partition, or has a link to where I can download it I would REALLY appreciate it.

Thankyou in advance,

glenb83

You would need an operating system cd and maybe MS Word or an open source alternative, then most anything for drivers could be found at the Toshiba site.

Would you like to try and fix the existing system, then make an image of it for the future? What are the problems?

Hi Fruss, I did do a clean install of xp when I got the machine about 6 months ago with my own xp cd, as there was no recovery cd and no recovery partition found, norton ghost, win xp cd, and tech 182 boot cd all did not see one. I then installed all drivers after downloading them from the toshiba site, and everything seemed ok.

For the last month or so the audio driver seems to be dropping out (suspect the windows audio service, although it is set to start automatically) because sometimes when you turn it on there is no sound and the sound control panel is blacked out, but other times you turn it on and it is ok. I usually end up uninstalling the audio device from device manager then rebooting, letting it find it, then rebooting again after it is found and I usually get sound. This has become increasingly frustrating over time.

I added 512mb ram to it last night, and upon reboot asked to install drivers for new hardware. I had a look at what it was trying to install and it ended up being the modem. Why these devices keep dropping out I do not know. Anyway, it said it could not install the new device, I found the original drivers I installed it with and ran the setup, still no good. I downloaded and ran an alternative driver and still no good. After rebooting, it seemed to be back though.

I am getting frustrated with it all, and prepared to do a factory restore if someone has a recovery dvd or partition image they could post for me, I would be very grateful. Thanks.
