compaq, does not detect hard drive

i have a compaq presario R3000. the hard drive went out, so i put a new one in. when i try to install window it tells me there is no hard drive detected. can any help me with this, please.:confused:

I suspect that the HDDs in the laptops are handled like the desktop PCs...
