Hey,
I have Windows ME and I was wondering exactly how to remove programs so they dont startup on boot. One of my friends mentioned something about using regedit, but I dont remember how to do it from there. Will someone help me out?
Thanks, Joe

I would use MSCONFIG to make those changes.
Here is a link to a site that explains how to use it:
MSCONFIG (http://www.techadvice.com/w98/M/MS_CONFIG.htm)
(I beleive that msconfig is included with Windows ME)
Hope this helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi, I've an addition to dO3boy's question. Minimising the programs which run at startup is a good thing for all computers, right? Removing programs is done via "msconfig", OK. My question is, how do I determine which programs can be be removed and which are best left alone? My Toshiba Satellite Pro 4280, Pentium III, 64mb RAM, has 28 items in the startup list. With them all checked the SYSTEM RESOURCES run at 56% free! I have seen advice advocating that only ScanRegistry, SystemTray and LoadPowerProfile should be left on. This seems extreme but I'm just guessing. All thoughts and comments appreciated. Thanks GNA.

Here (http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/Window_memory.htm) is a pretty comprehensive list of apps that run at startup, what they are and if they can be shut off......

Don't forget before using msconfig see if the program itself has an option not to start up at boot time

Hi and thanks for the replies. For several days I could see there were replies on this topic but I could only view the first two. Then, Hello Hello, there they were. Weird and frustrating.
Anyhow, I've gone through the suggested links and ID'ed most startup files except for; S3TRAY YAMAHA DS-XG Launcher Irmon TDspOff (not sure if that's ..Off or zero ff) TOSHIBU PsPCCard TEscKey TFunckey THotkey NetZIPFolders. What do these files relate to and can they be removed from the startup folder? Thanks
