is it true that the master device has always to be at the end of the flat ribbon cable? and the slave in the middle? I am experiencing crashes and reboots and my master is in the middle of the cable? could this be the cause?
thanks you

I have looked in some books (yes books!!! pre internet!!) and they always show the master being at the end, never tried to change them around. If the instruction show you one way I always stick with it!!

Hey,

As long as the drives are jumpered correctly, it should not make a difference where on the cable you connect them. Having the Master at the end and slave in the middle is just standard procedure.

If you have your drives jumpered as Cable Select, then yes, you would have to have the Master drive at the end, and the slave in the middle. If you are using Master and Slave jumper settings however, it won't make a difference which connector you use. Again, it's just standard procedure to hook them up with M on the end and S in the middle.

I really doubt if the drive setup is the cause of your problems. More info is needed.

BB, that is/was true for 40 wire but the 80 wire cables will properly support cable select...so it is back to the old way of having a standard position for each connector....
