No idea on this one.
When adding a hard drive (to a system with one SATA drive), which would give better performance: a second internal SATA hard drive or an external USB drive?
Thanks.

Internal SATA is faster than USB especially if you get 10,000 RPM drive with 16 MB of cache....

What is your purposed for adding a new hard drive for back-up?if you put an Internal SATA hard drive, performance is still ok.USB external hard drive is also ok.

Thanks, classic. I wasn't going to go with one of the 10,000 hard drives just yett. The 74 GB drive costs more than the 7200 160 drive. Is the speed difference very noticeable?
ernield, no it's not just for back ups. I bought a SATA 80 GB to use as the boot drive of this new computer. Since my motherboard has two IDE connections, I'll be using my two old IDE drives. They're both full of needed production files (audio and video) so I'd like to add another drive for editing the existing projects.
I have three more SATA slots and a lot of USB connectors (Firewire, too), and I wasn't sure which type of drive would work better. They're all about the same price, although I keep seeing the WD MyBooks on sale, sometimes cheaper than SATA drives of the same size.

Yes it is. They are faster.. It's not like the other drives are slow. It's just these are faster..
