I have been having a problem with my new computer, whenever I try to open a certain file full of media (movies, pictures, games, etc.), I was getting a data execution prevention prompt. I disabled this function according to instructions from this page: http://www.zensoftware.co.uk/kb/article.aspx?id=10002

After receiving the prompt, I am always prompted with the Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. Although the data execution prevention is not a problem anymore, I still get the explorer error page, making me close the folder every time. I have tried to fix it, but I have no idea what to do, it doesn't seem like a very specific problem, seems like it is going to be very difficult to fix, which is why I am asking here. I really appreciate any form of help you guys can provide.

It sounds to me like you have some corrupted software in your system. You could try reinstalling some files off your OS cd that came with or scan the system. Since DEP's happen when there is code embedded which shouldn't be executed, this could be signs of a certain type of virus or nasty batch file. I'd try running your anti-virus system, as well as getting LAVASOFT ADAWARE with SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY and see if they can find something, they usually can. there is an option that the data you're trying to access contains malicious software. Also, what nature did this problem occur in. Did the problem occur since first power on or have you had it in use for some time. If you had it in use for some time, then something changed which made this not work. In that case, I'd recommend doing a system restore. Hope this helps.

Ya, I just did a full scan with Kaspersky, I will try with adaware and spybot though. It has happened recently...Even if I wanted to delete some files I downloaded that could potentially be the cause, the file is closed every time I try to open it anyways.

After deleting all new files and running sfc /scannow, I believe the problem has been solved, thanks for all the help.

Well....it was working, then I extracted a video file from rar into the same file and right clicked it, and it came up with the same explorer error page. Now every time I open the folder I get the same thing....very annoying to say the least.

Maybe you could try extracting into a different folder?

Wouldn't really solve anything though...if it did work
