Hello,
Can someone tell me please what "FINDFAST" means. This program is currently running in the background of my PC. Maybe this program is a memory-eater ?

Thanks.

Find Fast is an application installed with any Microsoft Office program that constantly checks all local drives for recently opened or modified Office files. By keeping track of those recently opened or modified files the Office programs can open them quicker if needed later.

Find Fast is a drain on system resources, as mentioned above, and can also cause Defrag to start over constantly, due to it's repetitive accessing the hard drive. I find it more a nuisance than a helpful application. It also causes some users to be alarmed when they find that their floppy drive LED flashes periodically when accessed by Fast Find.

Find Fast icons are placed in the Start Up folder, at Start\Settings\Taskbar and Start Menu\Start Menu Programs\Advanced. Simply delete the icons and it will not run any more. Removing these should also remove the entry from msconfig.

Hoi,
What Paleo Pete suggested don't work but i've disable it at the startup:
Find Fast icons are placed in the Start Up folder, at Start\Settings\Taskbar and Start Menu\Start Menu Programs\Advanced. Simply delete the icons and it will not run any more. Removing these should also remove the entry from msconfig.

Does somebody knows how i have to remove the findfast from msconfig ?

Thanks. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Microsoft Office installation places FindFast in your system. Its indexing of files can really slow your system. To remove FindFast, click Start, Settings, Control Panel. When Control Panel opens, double-click the Find Fast icon. When the Find Fast dialog box opens, select an index entry and choose Index, Delete Index. Click to the affirmative in any warning dialog boxes that open. Repeat this procedure for all the index entries. When you've deleted all of them, choose Index, Close and Stop to close the dialog box.
Right-click Start and choose Open. Double-click the Programs icon. Locate the Startup menu and double-click to open it. Click the FindFast entry to select it, then press Delete. Click Yes to confirm deletion. Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Findfast, now the Indexing Service, is enabled by default for Windows 2000 and XP as part of the base installation. Unless you have a special need for a full text index of all local files, I recommend disabling it.

In Control Panel
Select Add / Remove Programs
Select Add / Remove Windows Components
Uncheck the Indexing Service
or simply change the Indexing Service from Automatic to Manual in the Services manager console.

Hope this helps you out have a good Holiday.
