My Acer Aspire 5670 started making a horrible buzzing noise when I turned it on this morning. I've been reading around and it seems to be a fan, because the case above the C/D Drives is getting hot quick, and there's less air coming out of the vent.

My question is, what's a safe way to take this thing apart and mess with/replace the fan? This is my first laptop, so I've never had to take one apart.

It just changed while I was typing this. Now it sounds like a loud HD loading noise, mixed with a slightly quieter whine, and it's skipping between the whine and the loading noise. I'm off to use another computer.

You may find some guidance here (http://repair4laptop.org/disassembly_acer.html)

Thanks for the link david, but I think I'm going to have to find blueprints somewhere, because I'm a laptop noob when it comes to service.

I've had the computer on for about two hours now, and it's not making any fan noise, but it's not any warmer than it normally would be. I've made backups of my important files onto my D drive in case one of the drives decides to die, but I don't think that's the problem.

If something catches on fire I'll post again, but uh, I think I'm good for now.

A buzzing fan needs to be addressed ASAP.
It is either a bit of dust making the buzzing from vibration, or a fan bearing can be failing. Cleaning the fan and heatsink is the first thing you should look at, if it still makes noise, it needs the fan replaced.
