Sorry for going AWOL on everyone (I've been around a bit but not as much as I normally want to be.)
I am working heavily offline on site stuff, but mostly I am up to my ears with issues here at home. As such I am not getting much time online, and when I do get online am generally exhausted.
Thanks for your patience, and thanks to all of you for answering questions during this difficult time for me.

Charles, while we do miss hearing from you, it is not your responsibility to answer every question as soon as the question is posted. It isn't your responsibilty to answer all the questions anyway. That is what the rest of us are here for. And remember, not mattter how much you love your career, some things at home always take precedence.

Charles,

amen to that. Wasn't aware of the situation. Rest up, take stock & take it easy for awhile my friend. Careers/jobs come & go, but family & friends stay forever. Relationships are where it's at.

U will certainly be in our thoughts & prayers from now on.

Kind Regards.......Son of Zeus.

Thanks for the support everyone. Nothing's really wrong per se, just very very busy this past week.
I do feel a responsibility to be active on these forums; to do otherwise would be hypocritical, especially since I encourage visitors to the main part of the site to come here...

Uncle Charles,

welcome back!!! Good to see u on your feet again. But I believe Paleo Pete may be a little disappointed. I think he was planning a cou de tray, a takeover as it were, of the PC Guide Forums. :-) Seriously now folks. He's been a busy little beaver & has come up with the good news that my DX4 has EIDE. Which ofcourse means that I can treat myself to a new, bigger, much faster HD very, very soon.

But still need to resolve whether she can cache 64MB FPM RAM or no. According to ASUS her limit is actually 128MB, but doubt that she would cache it all after reading the following info:

“SIMM/DIMM banks, and types of RAM therein (some boards don't recognise modules above 32 Mb). How much memory can the cache handle? Sometimes not above 64 Mb, and if you go over that on a VX/TX board you can expect a performance drop of around 5%. “

“The older 430TX, FX and VX can only cache the first 64Mb of RAM. In contrast, the 440BX supports up to 1Gb of RAM and the GX up to 2Gb”

Not sure if I got those from here or not, but anyway what am I saying. Here u are still not 100%, battling to take the helm, perhaps not even got your sea legs back yet & here I am rattling on about a prehistoric 486’s potential upgrade path.

Welcome back aboard the good ship "The PC Guide" captain. Permission requested to weigh anchor & set sail for those foreign exotic eastern ports. Long distant, mysterious & alluring...their siren songs beckon. Smell that salt air. Feel the sun on your face. Ah it’s good to be at sea again.

OK I'll stop now.

Chow for Now.......Son of Zeus.

Whatever that boy's been smokin' I want some!

Glad you're back now and then Charles, I think we all understand how things go when you have to be a homebody for a bit, and we're all behind ya all the way.

Don't worry about this place, we'll hold the fort with no problems. Take care of the personal stuff first and then worry about the Internet, it'll still be here...

Notice I said WE? hehehe...

I like the moniker SOZ endowed upon Charles...if he takes to it well, maybe we can all address him similarily. I concur with the soldiers above in that I would rather you break for a while as opposed to "burning out" in here trying to answer everything that pops up and of course there "things" in life they take precedence over other "things". As always...thanks for the great site...Jerry
