I use mine for internet, movies/music, and games. I'm really scratching my head for getting such an powerful system. 397W idle with Prime95 in the background. But it's fun to look at. How about everyone else?

Updating my virus programs, doing virus scans, updating my firewall, updating my spy ware programs, doing scans for spy ware, deleting all the spam I get in my email, looking for ways to make my system more secure, run system defrag, clean out all of the unnecessary files, try to get my system set up so that Microsoft doesn't snoop too much to see what I'm doing, and once in a while I use it just simply to do things for my very own self. Well--that's a little bit of an exaggeration.:)
and once in a while I use it just simply to do things for my very own self. Well--that's a little bit of an exaggeration.:)
Only the "and once in a while I use it just simply to do things for my very own self" part is exaggeration

I use my computer to remain connected to the world around me..!
And then I ignore most of that other stuff.

(a) Visit the PC Guide.
(b) Send and receive emails, photo's, GEDCOM files, etc.
(c) Store photos, music, Family Tree data, type documents, scanning photos & documents, etc.
(d) Online banking, paying bills, transferring money, getting statements.
(e) Finding & buying goods on the web.
(f) Searching for Family Tree info at various websites, making the tree on the PC, uploading to GenesReunited, sharing tree info with others.
(g) Finding info on the web. e.g. Best routes to travel, where located, medical info, words.
(h) Burning optical disks.
(i) Finding people on planet Earth [e.g. reunited: Danish daughter with Scottish father she'd never met; Canadian sister & Scottish half brother who didn't know the other existed].
(j) Controlling the PC of another, installing protective programs, scanning.
The above list, because it doesn't go into detail, doesn't tell the half of it.
e.g. A day or two back, I was sent info by a man in Australia who is the grandson of my wife's fathers' fathers' [Robert, born 1877] older brother [John, born 1868] who emigrated to Australia in 1911.
He sent scanned images of various newspaper articles [year 1924, and including his photo in the article] relating to himself [Robert], who was a published poet.
Robert had handwritten some notes on the top of this article and sent them to John in Australia.
One of Roberts' published poems entitled "The Scottish Emigrant" [long and I find it very moving] was dedicated "To my Brother John".
If anyone's interested I'll post it here.

I use a "Cahoot Webcard". [Comes as part of a Cahoot credit card]
It's a little installed program that is in the startup menu and runs in the background.
When I want to pay for something online, the program generates a one-off virtual credit card that is good for only one transaction [that transaction], and [during that transaction] I can set a limit that's only just greater than the price of the item.
So that "card" can only be used up to that limit, and only for that transaction; after that it's useless.
Then I pay money into the account to cover it so no interest charges are due. :)
