Hey all,
I've been feverishly coding some enhancements to the forums that I think you will like. I knowSamantha will like some of them. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
Here we are:
There is now a "Track Topic" button available for each topic thread. If you click it you will be taken to a form where you can select tracking for that topic. For each topic you track, you will be emailed if anyone replies to that topic. Note that this is independent of the "Email Notification" option you normally get only at the start of a new topic.
In honor of the occasion, I created new icons for "New Topic", "Post Reply" and "Track Topic". Aren't they snazzy? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
The last three users to join the Forums are greeted on the front page forum display; no doubt you noticed that already.
I cleaned up the icon display for each message, they were misaligned before which bugged me.
Some forums now show "tips for success" when you post a new topic. This will help people get the most of their time, especially when looking for technical help.
I made the message boxes larger to enable easier editing.
The "Track Topic" feature took me two days to adapt and configure, because the code it was based on was incomplete and not acceptable to me in the way it worked. It was a painful but valuable experience: I essentially taught myself a long-overdue lesson in Perl and CGI. Better late than never. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Well, that's about it for now! Anyway, as always, let me know what you think. The work continues, so don't be stunned if you see an Internal Server Error or three. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

I think this is a great addition--thanks for your dedication.
This is a great site from a tech wannabe view point.

Hi, I'm quite new to the forum, though I've been on a similar one for car enthusiasts. But that one doesnt have the 'Track Topics' option.
I think this site is great and has already helped me with some probs so far.
Many thanks to you and all behind the scenes, for a job well done, & for the effort put into it.
Success is attributed to dedicated members. and I hope that I will be able to contribute in the future.
Kindest Regards.

Thanks Vic, that's very kind of you. It's really the great participants here who help each other and make the place work. Combined, we all know far more than any one of us knows. I just keep the place running and try to get more writing done behind the scenes to try to expand and update the site. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
The "Track Topic" thing is a custom hack, which is why it's only on some BBSes, incidentally.
