I have a laptop which has XP Home Edition.....SP1

I am trying to upgrade to SP2 as required for my shiny new Office 2007....:D

Microsoft has apparently now tied this so-called free download to also "trying" something called Microsoft Update......

I cannot find a way around it, and recognize they are going to try to sell me this program (update) after I "try" it.....

Anyone know a way around this?????

Thanks!

most things need SP2 Microsoft update just updates your system you can turn i on and off in control panel. are you trying to say you don't want SP2? big security risk

YES, I want SP2, just not their forced-upon-you Update program.....

Thanks for the response.

Get the one for IT professionals and install it offline.

Microsoft Update is Windows Update on steroids, same thing...you can allow automatic updates for Windows and Office, or select for it to Notify you when an update is available and allow you to decide when to install.
It is not a "pay extra" program.

lol updating is good.
If you turn on the "automatic updates" it would make your life a lot easier because it does all the updating for you. ( you just need to approve it.)
Anyway, if you do it, it's faster than actually going online and doing it there.
Personally, I don't really like SP2 despite the fact that basically all of the programs these days require it. I don't know why, but SP2 feels a lot slower than SP1. I don't seem to know the reason to it, but there is definitely a slow-down somewhere. =P
