I had made another thread regarding this problem but it seems it (and any other thread which was created before June) has been removed. If it has just been moved perhaps someone can point me to it and we can discontinue this thread for me to repost on that one.

I've been having problems getting my laptop to charge. Generally what happens is that I'll plug my charger in, the charge light will illuminate for roughly 1-2 seconds, and then turn off. Lightly wiggling the charger around inside it's socket does not cause it to begin charging again (even for a moment)- I must keep removing and reinserting the charger into it's socket in this same fashion until after 1-10 minutes the charge miraculously seems to hold. In the beginning repeatedly taking the charger in and out in and out wasn't too big of a problem but now it's just really annoying and I find myself ready to punch through the flimsy little monitor.

When the problem originated I had an incredibly shredded charger that shot off sparks and was covered in electrical tape. I thought that this was probably the source of my problems, but since then I've ordered a new charger and the problem still persists.

After opening up the laptop a couple times I've noticed a couple things:

The connections (or at least the ones I can see) seem to be intact.

The battery isn't a part of the problem, as the laptop will have the same problems attempting to run off of AC power.

The socket which I plug the charger into seems to be loose.

Right now I'm almost completely sure it has to do with the loose socket. When examining it after opening up my laptop, I've noticed that actual charger socket component of the laptop will wiggle and move. When I insert the charger into the socket, the weight of the cord alone will cause it to budge slightly (hence the laptop charging for a really short period of time before it stops). I've been able to put something relatively small under the charger cord directly emerging from the socket to hold it up a bit, and it seems to deal with the problem.

When I had the laptop opened however I ran into something of a problem- I don't really have access to that loose socket. There is a grey panel that runs across the back of the laptop covering a lot of the motherboard that seems to be held on by little unscrewable bolts. I can't remove it, and it covers the loose component.

I can post pictures if need be, but any help with this problem would be nice. I'd like to avoid having to replace the laptop.

You probably mean this thread:
http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=57136
Both would have gathered better responses in Notebook forum.
