Hey everyone,

I'm new to the forum and would like to say hi to everyone :)

I'm looking at building a new PC that I can use for video/2d/3d editing.
Being a little behind in PC hardware, I have absolutely no idea what is new and what will be coming out soon.

I've been eyeing the Mac Pro's recently, but figured why spend 4-5k when I can get away with a decent PC for a few years, for a lot cheaper. My brother purchased a DUAL Xeon 2.8Ghz last year I believe, and it can handle alot of complex applications (i.e. Maya/AE/etc). He's happy with it.

I was wondering if anyone has any recent insights for quality products. I'm clueless as to what chipset/ram/vid cards are new etc.

Basically I'm looking at the following:
Motherboard (firewire compatability is a must- to use with my external HD/iPod etc)
Sound - doesn't matter
RAM - should be able to handle 3D-Renderings
Video Card - anything from high-end to extreme (excluding Fire/Quadro :))
HD - not sure what RAID0/etc is, any suggestions?
Monitor - 22"/24", something for the graphics industry. (even if I can get away with something w/o spending too much xtra for a few features)

Any advice/suggestions is appreciated.
I'm going to post back soon with a set-up that I 'think' would be alright.
I will be looking at purchasing something sometime august.
Budget: $2500 (could squeeze a few xtra $$)

Also, I do play video games on the side. Something that could up my gaming-experience isn't a bad idea as well :D

Cheers
(edit: budget)
