CPU Upgrade

Hi guys.

Funds are tight at the moment and I was looking at upgrading my CPU.

I currently have an AMD X2 4600+ 2.4Ghz 512mb L2 Cache x 2

Given that I cannot afford to change the mobo to upgrade to an Intel CPU, I was looking at the AMD X2 6000+ 3.0Ghz 1mb L2 Cache x 2.

For an amazingly low jaw dropping £99, would the upgrade be worth it - in other words, would I notice much difference against my 4600.

I use the PC for gaming (GRAW 2.0) and media (DVD decoding & Music).

Or would I be better off upgrading something else ie HDD to Raptors ???

If funds are that tight.
I'd save the 99 and wait till it is a better/larger jump in power
from 2.4 to 3.0 is not that much 0.6
The extra 512 L2 cache would help

But would it be worth it?

Usually I would - well to be honest if the funds were there I'd swap to intels core2quad, however - AMD have announced that the 6000 will be their highest processor on socket AM2 for the forseeable future so whatever cpu I want I have to buy another mobo - doh

Another idea would be to find and buy the fast CPU that M/B can handle ( max it out )
I'm not sure what that is.
Not into AMD's any more

But if the 6000 is the end of the road for that M/B cpu then maybe it is a way to get a little more out of it before they make it extinct

I agree it isn't worth it. If you had single core I would say go for it. But you're doing pretty good with what you have.

If it was maybe half that price I would say why not. :)

Yeah RESULT - after 6 months off after heart attack Ive just been offered a job (Guess my first weeks wages can buy me a new mobo lol)
