On one of my machines I have Vista Business which, of course, has IE 7 with Outlook Express. Is there a way to uninstall Outlook Express and then reinstall it? It is very slow. When I click on anything it takes sever seconds to respond. On my other machine it responds instantly. So, I'm thinking that there could be a corrupt file someplace--maybe--it's just a guess. So I would like to uninstall and reinstall if it can be done. I did all the virus and spyware checks and see no problems there. Thanks.

Is this an upgrade coz I thought Vista's OE had become Windows Mail (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/features/details/mail.mspx).
OE is usually uninstalled by using Add/Remove Windows Components or Add/Remove Programs from Control Panel depending on the version and whether it is an upgrade. Vista may have a different way of course.

Yep--You're right. I keep making a mistake and calling it Outlook Express. But it is actually Windows Mail; although it looks pretty much the same Outlook Express. I can't find anyplace where I can remove it.

A workaround HERE (http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/554006-reinstall-windows-mail.html) maybe.

I tried some of what was suggested on that web-site, but it didn't help. According to some of the responses from people it did help some. I think I have an idea what's causing the problem for me and I think it has something to do with the updates that I've installed. I'll work with it later on today or this evening and let you know the result. Here's what happened so far. It sounds strange that's why I'm going to work with it some more. If I un-install all of the updates I have on here, everything works fine. However, when re-install one of the updates, the problem comes back. The strange part is that it makes no difference which update I re-install, the problem will come back. So it's not any one particular update. It seems that just the fact of installing an update will bring on the problem. I know it sounds strange, that's why I'm going to try it again.

Perhaps it will be fixed when they release SP1 !! ;)
Or perhaps it will get worse !! :(

FrankSG did you try going into Windows Mail's options and unchecking the autocomplete any email address that is typed into the To: or CC: boxes.?
My friend had issues and he said that once he unchecked that option, his lag time was almost nil.

I tried that, Gracious, but it didn't help. Thanks anyway. I'm going to forget about it right now and let it soak in my brain for a day or two. Yesterday I felt like hitting it with a hammer, but I couldn't find a hammer big enough. Sometimes when I spend a lot of thought trying to solve a problem, if I just let it go and relax, an idea pops into my head sometimes. Well---sometimes but not always. I'll post back and let you know if anything pops.

For sometime Thunderbird wasn't supported on Vista but that seems to have changed.

I know what I would be doing.

It's fixed!! I did a google search and found this http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/72674-windows-mail-slow.html
It's all explained there. All I had to do was download a file (winmail.reg) and run it; which put an entry into my registry and it solved the problem. According to what it says there, if you use SpyBot's immunize function, or SpyWare Blaster; and if you download MS's update KB931768, it causes a conflict. Before I ran the file I, of course, backed up my registry.
