Over the last couple of days I have noticed my monitor going into stand by (even when I'm actively using it) more and more. Generally it does it ever hour or so and then becomes more frequent to every half hour until it eventually stays on for roughly 30 seconds before going into standby.

Any ideas?

By standby do you mean the yellow light comes on ?
Or Does it ever say no signal ?

One thing to check first on the monitor
Are the air vents ( top and/or back) clear, clean and have air flow
Then go into the monitor menu and turn off any sleep feature in the monitor itself ,
Then give it another try

just the yellow light... if you move the mouse it comes back on like standard standby.

I'll give those a check... it's an LCD monitor if it makes a difference.

If it comes back when you move the mouse.
Then you should check the power options / settings in windows
Power saver for the monitor may be set wrong

You can get to the power settings from the screen saver menu or directly from the power options icon in control panel

Ok so an update to this is:

Installed the most recent Vid card drivers with no difference, in fact it was worse.

Uninstalled the vid card drivers and it works fine (no going into standby, no pixellation when it comes back from standby) except the refresh rate is low and I can't increase it

I went to Display in control panel and then settings. from there I clicked advanced and monitor.
The refresh rate only gives the following:
"USE HARDWARE DEFAULT SETTING"

I assume this is because the drivers aren't installed but if I install the drivers it'll go back to how it was before.
