Windows 98SE,Abit BP6M/B,Westerndigital HD.Vodoo video.Creative sound. The problem I have is the sys would have prob booting and now can only get to come up in safe mode. When I went into devise manager all IRQ's say In use by unknown devise. The I/O's are blank and the DMA's say the same thing In use by unknown devise. I have been running the sys for a couple of months with no prob. I intend on reformating the H/D and reinstalling everything. But does anyone know what could have caused this???????????

Please provide some history of the problem... namely, has it always been this way, or did it start recently? Did it begin in response to something you did? etc..

no it was not always tis way and I didn't look at the IRQ's when the sys started misbehaving. The IRQ's were as they should be the last time I looked at them before I started to have problems. I reformated and reinstalled windows last night and all is back to normal.

Just a guess but did you check for a virus?
Keep a close eye on your device manager for any changes

no devices with yellow i . the only other prob with the sys from the start after I built it was a shut down prob. It would not always shut down with windows had to manualy turn off sys. One other thing comes to mind some of the devices had double entries.

The double entries are usually no big problem, they can be removed in Safe Mode, but if you try it, remove them all, and let Windows detect and reinstall them on revoot, since you have no idea from the displayed information in Device Manager which one is currently in use.
You said above you recently installed Windows and all was back to normal. If that's the case, COOL!! Leave it alone... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

If you had everything...Where would you put it?
