Got a pentium 3 laptop 746mhz with 352mb of RAM. I have windows xp sp2 on it. don't know why when i try to play an .avi OR a DVD movie, the film or the short clip is chopped, hope am using the right word. More precisely you can hear the voice but the image remains still and after some second you can see the image coming back again. i have installed all the codecs and used palyers like power dvd, windows media 11 and VLC.
Any solution please.
Thanks

what codec is used for these files? cuz a piii 750mgz is SLOW!! maybe in desktop its fine for most movies but codecs these days r very complex and need lots of cpu power!! plus the xp on 352mb of ram is not much. but that must be 384mb -32mb for onboard graph? so if thats true then the cpu is doing too much work, for graph AND decoding??

you should check errorr reports in vlc, it will tell you if cpu maybe too slow. i have seen many older systems not run high def avi in vlc, its a cpu hog! but its good andfree and so we use it ;)

am using the Xvid codec. Well what u r saying is true. i think because of the high def of these movies the CPU is in a bad position, as i can play VCD movies without any problem. Better to use this old crap for word processing and browsing only.

omg!! ur r using high def xvid on old piii?? yeh thats a big problem! ;) cant do that complex movies on old piii. its too SLOW! like i said b4 but you now that now. i think maybe if u can get a graph card for that computer instead on onboard graph it might wrok better but maybe not too. i dont know how fast cpu you need for high def movies but i think 1000mhz wuold b good but depends on cpu type. like piii is slow but 1.3 might be faste enuf but p4 is better etc.

but like u said that old thig would b good for websurfing and stuff. you have better cpu in other computer to use for high def moveis? i hope it is the case cuz piii is old for only computer! =P I like p4 or new Intel cpus for seeing movies but AMD is good too and so is DVD player! ;) large TVs are for movies, right? but computers are good for solo movies. not with friends tho cuz they are compalaining alot and wanting popcorn! :D
