I want to download a free, reliable program for copying and editing audio files. Must support windows vista.
Suggestions please.

free and reliable and supports vista? =P maybe you can go to download dot com and see what they have for freeware or trialware but vista is still too new for this thing. ive noticed even most PAY software isnt working well on vista!! not yet, tho. soon it will be better but "reliable" is going to be your main probelm right now. maybe you can look for free xp audio editiors on google or something and see if they work on vista?
but if you could pay for something. would you pay like $50 or something jsut for a good program? alot of software right now is going thru vista conversion so you should see if pay progrms have an upgrade avalable. so it works on xp now (and maybe vista if possible) but has vista version coming soon that is part of a free upgrade right now. or you just try free xp version software and see if it runs on vista but i would try 32bit first. it will be safer for 32bit vista right now since 32bit drivers are more like xp drivers.

Since my post I did a little homework and found that "Audacity" offers a downloadable audio program that supports Vista. "Audacity" from what I also gathered also enjoys a reputation for reliability/integrity. As a consequence, I've downloaded and installed the program but have not had an opportunity to use it.
Thanx for your response.

Good choice. Audacity is a good program. I've used it for several audio editing projects. It's got some pretty advanced features, and there are plugins that make it even more powerful.

I've used Audacity for years as my primary sound utility. The secondary is the ol' Windows Sound Recorder. Nothing but good news of Audacity.
