I have been sent a virus (I am informed that this is WORM_BADTRANS.B)
Which I have hopefully cured from my machine .The problem is all e-mails sent out by the virus are being returned and I am concerned because I have been informed that they do not have to be opened to infect my machine .What do I do?
I am not familiar with the workings of computers so could you please keep any advice simple

Welcome book 123. Sorry about the virus but welcome to the club, my computer too was infected by the same virus. See my thread under How do I.
You might like to click www.theregister.co.uk (http://http://) here and read the article "BadTrans virus bites Window unsers hard".

if you are using Outlook Express or Outlook, open your address book and create a new entry there>> name it "000" (without the "quotes")>> do NOT give this entry an email address.

From now on, if you have a virus such as this that gets into your machine it will not be able to duplicate itself and send out to all your other email addy's in your address book because as "000" is your #1 entry and it has no email addy to go to, it will 'hang' and give you an error message before anything gets sent out!

(thus, not affecting all your friends and online acquaintences, nor coming back later to 'bite' you)

Celica,

When Sea reads this I'm sure he'll set things straight. I read Yoda's post and what the gentleman appeared to be aiming at was the misinformation regarding the "0000" procedure in place of Anti Viral protection.

The article was also saying there was misinformation regarding personal infection with a Virus if you followed the "0000" procedure.

Sea was not saying that you would not become infected...but that you would not spread the thing! You've already "been had" if it is attempting to infect others!

Also,Book123 , this particular Forum is used by the Moderators for announcements. I realize that you're new to the Forum...so Pete, don't use the BIG axe! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

sorry!!!!!!!!

It was early, no coffee, and I didn't notice the gun was loaded........... (what section we were in)

I have emailed this "Dr. Bombay" to inform him that he is incorrect in his assessment of this 'trick', and additionally he is spreading incorrect information to countless people online.

maybe it is him that makes these things and sends them out??

sorry Pete

It has already been brought to your attention that the Announcements forum is for forum administration use only. Please do not post new topics here. Read the "Tips for Success" section and it specifically states that. Also read it in any category, it will be helpful in deciding what category to post any topic in, each has a few basic subjects listed.

Virus and trojan topics I realize are tough, I usually post them in "PC World", that seems to be the most appropriate, "How Do I" or "System Troubleshooting" might work too.
