hey everyone.

currently, i have an ECS motherboard (nForce 570 slit-a) and was looking to upgrade from my Pentium D 925 to a q6600. I've considered the E6600, but I think for my on-the-side business of audio and video editing, i'm leaning more towards the quad core. however, my motherboard doesn't support quad core cpu's, only core 2's. so if i went the quad core route, i would need to get a new mobo.

Would you suggest going with the C2D or make the jump to the quad?

I'd say go with the C2Q for video edit work.

As for the mother board
Before you give up on it.
Check the web site for it and see if they have a bios update to add support for the C2Q

Also make note of the C2Q you get
The newer ones are running at FSB: 1333MHz ( or will be )
and the older models run at FSB :1066/800MHz

oh, thanks Rick. It hadn't occurred to me that C2Q support would be a bios thing. it would be great if i could save the extra $100 on using my current motherboard, rather than upgrading.

i'll look into it!

edit: I just checked out the bios update description on the ECS website. (from v. 3.1 to v. 5.1) and it did not include quad core support as one of the updates......unfortunately.
