View Full Version : Yes, I know, the forums suck, sorry :)
Wasn't a great day with the server today. I know a lot of folks are getting errors. The forums are growing quickly and there are some things I plan to do about it; please be patient, changes are coming. Sorry for the trouble.

The forum is never ever gonna actually "suck", Sir. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Was dismayed yesterday when I couldn't get to the site, no way no how, but I remembered we did this before and I didn't panic.
So what you are saying is that we are victims of our own success?

These forums "SIR", do not suck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
Yes the server is in need of updating, but we are willing to wait until that can happen effectivly enough to plan for future growth.
Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it! We need to analyze the growth over the last year (about 4000 I think) and plan for future growth that will exceed those numbers. As more people join, they tell two friends, and they tell two friends, and they tell two friends,.......
One recommendation I would like to make to everyone here, if you get a server error, go back, copy your reply or post, back out to the main page and try a refresh. If you can get all the way to that point and still not see your last post, then it probably won't happen. Then go back in and paste your response and submit again.
This can save dramaticly on server usage by eleminating all those double posts. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

You mean now maybe I can remove some of those double-triple-quadruple posts without getting server errors myself?? COOL!
One ended up with negative replies listed because I tried to delete a duplicate post by using the refresh button...5 times. It came up finally showing -2 replies (I think it was 2). http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif
Don't worry Ixl, everyone here has immense respect for the forums and most are aware that the server has been having problems and that's not anyone's fault.

I have been here over a year, and the forums have never sucked. I for one can put up with the minor problems, because I like to see the growth. If some people think the forums has problems they should borrow my computer for a few days. Keep up the good work and Thank you very much.

while I'm probably one of the most impatient people here, I hasten to point out the following:
try posting a {{real}} question on pcguide and two other pc-sites, the exact same question and see where you get results.
and a more friendly group of people here as well as knowlegeable.
that should summ it up

The forum does not suck. I myself would have never gotten through building my own pc and keeping it running without all the people that helped me through hard times. It may be slow at some times, and actually i have not had any major problems with it yet. I say keep up the good work, and you deserve the big pat on the back. PAT PAT

Hey!
I'm fairly new to the forums, mostly I was just using the guide. It's the best and most complete guide i've ever found! As well as easy to understand(and if you don't understand it, there is info on that too!!). The Forums definitely do not suck!!!! I'm so glad that i found it and can become part of the community. Everyone is doubly friendly and obviously experienced/knowledgeable about what's going on. As well as that I marvel at the utmost patience they reveal as they repeat the same info many times. I'm really amazed and glad that they do, because there is just so much backlogging I can do, before I give up and just ask about it. Thanks everybody!!!!

Hey I just came across this site last week, and it is by far the most helpful that I have seen. The forums do not suck. Yes, the search time needs improvement but I have seen some great results. Thanks to all that contribute. Many lifesavers here.
