netgear DG834G v3 networking

i have just bought the modem stated in the title and i have been using it without problem.. i have also purchased a usb wireless dongle for the computer upstairs! its all working great but i cant seem to access the upstairs computer from the one downstairs !! is there something i am missing or is it just me being a novice!!

Look here, it is a good tutorial. I would imagine one of the machines is not using simple file sharing. You have two routes to file sharing as the walk through describes.

i cant even see my network! i think im doing something wrong but i dont know what!

ok i just found something else out! this netgear router i have isnt showing up any wireless network on my computer! can this be activated or something!
