My computer has recently developed a fault I was hoping someone out there could help with. The computer keeps either restarting itself or completely freezing so that I have to turn power off at the wall to get it going again. When I log back in the computer says that windows has recoverd from a serious error and sends an error report to microsoft. The error report reply says the following:

Microsoft is unable to determine the exact cause of this error. However, this problem was most likely caused by an error in your computer’s random access memory (RAM). RAM is the main internal storage area the computer uses to run programs and store data.
During the crash analysis, we noticed the basic input/output (BIOS) system version on this computer does not match the specifications for the central processing unit (CPU), also known as a processor, that is installed on your computer. This can occur when a newer processor is installed on an older system board or older BIOS. Using a BIOS that does not support the installed processor can result in Windows system crashes. Contact your computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer for an updated version of BIOS for your computer's processor.
Additional information
Important: Upgrading the BIOS version may require moderate to advanced troubleshooting skills. If you are uncomfortable with performing these steps, you might want to consider consulting with paid technical support.
If your computer contains an Intel processor, you can use special utilities to identify your specific processor. Click the following link to go online for more information:

I don't think I have a virus because ive done a scan using mcafee which was all clear, and ive used my recovery disc to reinstall windows with no joy, and im doubtfull that the BIOS is the problem as this computer is unmodified since I bought it from PC world.

any help would be much appreciated
Dave

I recently had a problem with my pc freezing i re-installed windows xp that didn't work so i took it to a pc repair shop and they couldn't find out why it kept freezing so i was at a dead end

Then i unplugged my usb hub one day as i was tidying up under my desk, i forgot to plug in back in so the next time i put my pc on it didn't freeze so after 3-4 weeks of me trying to fix my pc it seemed it was the usb hub making it freeze wierd

I'm not saying it will work for you but you could try it :)

Download a copy of Memtest86+ (http://www.memtest.org/).
Burn it onto a floppy or CD.
Boot and test the system for 8-12 hours.
If the tests fail, you will need to re-seat the memory modules.
If the problem persists, you will need to replace the memory.
If the system passes memtest, remove all peripherals except for keyboard, mouse and monitor. Add devices back one at a time with a re-boot in between and see how the system performs.
Post back with your results.
