Can anyone recommend me some old software for my DOS and Windows 3.1 system? Games would also be nice. :)

Ever hear of "abandonware (http://www.abandonware.net/)"? Also, do a Google search of that term. Good stuff, all free now.

Get yourself a copy of Direct Access 5.1 (http://www.retrosoftware.com/12973.html)What an excellent menu program.

I got Norton Commander 5.5 via abandonware. I also got Liero, Scorched Earth, and BOWEP. I have tons of abandonware software like Photoshop 3, old versions of Quicktime, etc. I'd like a decent NTFS DOS driver. Also, could you look at my config.sys and autoexec.bat files? The CD-ROM driver is generic and works perfectly with my DVD drive. Workgroup for Windows 3.11 is the version of Windows. Sound and video work perfectly. Specs of the PC are in my sig.

AUTOEXEC.BAT
SET SOUND=C:\SB16
SET BLASTER=A220 I10 D0 H5 P300 E620 T6
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E MODE:0
SET CTCM=C:\CTCM
C:\SB16\DIAGNOSE /S /W=C:\WINDOWS
C:\SB16\AWEUTIL /S
C:\SB16\MIXERSET /P /Q
C:\CTCM\CTCU /S
SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\CDROM ;c:\trumpet
SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\WINDOWS
PATH C:\NC;%PATH%
LH /L:1,27952 MSCDEX /D:12345678 /L:D
LH /L:0;2,3328 /S MOUSE

CONFIG.SYS

DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS /EISA
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
DOS=HIGH,UMB
BUFFERS=15,0
FILES=40
LASTDRIVE=E

DEVICEHIGH=C:\CTCM\CTCM.EXE

That's as good as it gets for DOS. You have pretty much everything loaded high that you can. Enjoy it....

Some games like NHL95 don't work... it goes to the company animation and stops before EA Sports. Also, sometimes EMM386 crashes Windows. Is there anything better than EMM386? I tried UMBPCI.sys but it didn't run well.

I remember playing Raptor demo. I never had the chance to get the full version.

I enabled 32 bit file access in Windows 3.11 WorkGroups and now when I type win in dos, I get a forever blinking underscore on the top left.

From the DOS prompt you need to edit win.ini or system.ini and disable this. You are screwed windows wise until you do that.

Easy fix...I edited the SYSTEM.ini and backed it up first, then deleted the first two lines under 386Enc or whatever it is. Works perfectly. Also decreased the RAM from 320mb to 128mb since DOS/Win3x has issues with over 256mb RAM.
