I just want to warn people that Ad-Aware is no longer the tool it used to be... I can't go into details due to the source of the information, but it has clearly had a number of problems lately and there are good indications that this will get worse before it gets better, if it ever gets better... I advise caution about using it or recommending it to others to use...

Guess it's time to change the name to 'Ad-Beware'!!!

That confirms what I'd been wondering.
Just yesterday I tried [on a PC not my own] to install "Ad-Aware 2007 v7.0.1.6" and AVG warned that an attempt had been made to install a Trojan. :(
I got AVG to heal it and aborted the installation.
Should I "Erase" the installation file?

It isn't actually malware, it is more like it is broken... I suspect what you got was a false positive...

The new versions are a problem and that is because there are some basic problems in the Lavasoft company...
You can use Windows Defender, Spybot, AVG Antispyware, SuperAntispyware (not my first choice) or a couple of other options that don't readily come to mind... Just be sure to run only one in resident mode since they become less effective with more than one running...

So if I have "Ad-aware SE Personal - Build 1.06r1" I should be ok?
What about the updates that we get from them, are they messing things up as well or what?

I am guessing that the updates may be okay for a while, but that will likely eventually change too... You can certainly keep using it as long as you would like, but it will likely become less useful over time, unless they get their act together and deal with the problems they have created... I urge anyone who uses it to start getting familiar with other programs since it doesn't look promising...

I hate to hear a good tool has gone down the tubes. :(
Actually I haven't even used it on my own systems for over a year. I have it installed but haven't run a scan with it since April of 06'. There just hasn't been a reason to run it. [knock on wood] I haven't had it come up with anything other than a few minor tracking cookies for well over two years. I have updated it now and again, but I think I will just uninstall it now.
Responsible browsing with Firefox and NoScript = very few problems. :) I am so glad NoScript finally fixed the problem with blocking good javascipt pop ups. That was really getting on my nerves.
Thanks for letting us know Budfred. No need to waste our time using an ineffective tool. ;)

I stopped using Adaware after their problems with allowing some questionable programs to be removed from their scanning database.
This confirms my suspicions.
