Hi all.

Can anyone 'please' recommend me an ADSL2+ router for home use.

I don't really know much about them but I need the following:-

ADSL2+ Modem
3 or 4 Port 10/100/1000
Easy set-up/config Firewall
'FUTURE' Wireless PC & Printer option - (but need cabling at moment)
'Readily available' in the UK

I am currently using Netgear DG834 'wired' ADSL router but am in process of switching actual phone line from BT to TalkTalk, whom state that the modem/router must be ADSL2+. Now I assume my DG834 is not ADSL2+ but I dont really know for sure. However, as per my usual self, I would like a better-than-average router (don't really understand it all but have seen ones with 270 - 300 mbps???, and loads of other things listed that mean absolutely nothing/very little to me - but i'd like them anyway lol ;o) .... )

Perhaps I should pick up a book to learn about networking??? Then again... !!!

Thanks

I am not in the UK but this looks promising:

You also could do Netgear DS834G, it is ADSL+2 capable.

Thanks PrntRhd. Only thing putting me off that one is the 54mbps. Now as I said, I know very little about routers etc so I may be totally wrong here but most seem to have 108mbps lately and I've seen some with 270mbps at premium prices though, so I guess my question is "Is 54mbps enough for my use"? Currently I use networking for internet access and sharing multimedia like DVDs. However, in the VERY NEAR future I intend to use it for LAN gaming.

Sorry for double posting but I've noticed something I feel I need to find out.

Q:/ How come my PCs have 10/100/1000 LAN ports yet ALL modem routers I have found only have 10/100 ports?

Am I better off gaming with a X-over cable, or am I totally unclear on any of this networking stuff?

Sorry - just found this http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=487761

Is this what I need?/Is it a good one?

The Netgear DG834 is ADSL2 compatible. Just a firmware upgrade. I am using one, with a netgear wg602 on one of the ethernet ports for wireless connection to my laptop

Draft-N is not what you want right now because it may not be compatible with any other equipment when the spec is actually implemented.
Your network speed is faster with the 54mbps than your connection speed to the Internet.

What about ADSL2+ ?

Also, If I upgraded firmware (which I assume is just a download/flash) would I need the password & installation disc (which I no longer have) ?

Thanks

What installation disk? never used it myself, it only contains the manual as a PDF. If you flash the firmware, it sets the router back to factory settings with the default password.
