I'm sure overheating can affect overall performance, although not entirely positive, but it can definitely make the system stop performing at all...

CPU overheating will not affect the performance of the system, but it will reduce reliability and eventually cause hardware failure--which will affect system performance. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
