I've had this computer for about 2 years now, and the company that built it installed a water cooling system for the CPU, which had been constantly needing attention. Today it finally broke and I decided to install a normal heatsink / fan combo.
To remove the components of the fan, I had to remove my video and sound cards, as there were some wires tucked down below them. The wires did not interact in any way with the cards, they were just there.
After removing everything and installing the fan (which I believe was done totally correctly, no problems there) I booted up the pc. Everything was fine until I tried doing something other than sit on the desktop. Most notably, sound was extremely scratchy, and programs crashed and had artifacts all over them.
I've cleaned out the slots for both cards, and the RAM, checked the contacts to make sure they are ok, and checked that the heatsink was installed correctly. Everything seems to be rock solid, and I'm simply out of ideas at the moment.
My specs are: Nvidia 7800 GT, Creative X-Fi sound card, AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4800+, A8N32-SLI motherboard (but I'm not using SLI).
