So i just bought a geforce 8600 GT *woot* to replace my onboard geforce x6100 *gag*.
I formatted today also because I got soooo sick of windows x64 having issues with some of my hardware\software that wasn't well supported
I have an emachines t6420 with AMD64 and 1gig sys ram
So i reformatted it with xp pro 32bit and tried to install the card in the pciE slot.
VOILA! absolutely nothing... in the bios it says that PCI E should override the VGA output from the onboard card (which i had disabled in device manager) but it didnt... i was still geting my VGA from the onboard crap only now it was even crappier...
I just flashed my bios with the latest ones but i have two unkowns in my device manager which may be the cause of this problem, here's a link to view them.
Can anyone help me or should i just return the card and deal with my onboard crap

edit: by help me i mean't help me decipher what the two unknowns are and how to get drivers for them. I have downloaded all the drivers the emachines support page has for my model

Install the FREE Unknown Device Identifier v5.02 (http://www.zhangduo.com/unknowndeviceidentifier.html) and use it to identify the "Other Devices" and find suitable drivers.

First off
Disconnect that cable from the On board video and connect it to the new video card
Then boot up and let the bios auto detect the new card
if it fails to find the card
Then you need to solve that problem first

The 8600 should be found and used as a standard VGA to display the bios setup and info

Once that is finished
Then install your device drivers

Also Device manager is only used by windoz Not by the bios
In fact device manager gets much of it's info from the bios. ( Unless you have the PNP OS option set to yes. ) In that case set it to NO and allow the bios to reset itself

Well i tried that a bunch, after disablin the onboard card and such. but I shall try again! i really don't want to give up on this video card...

The reason i mentioned the device manager was because I wasn't sure if the unknown bus or pci bridge would affect the pci express slot function. I'm thinking it broke during transport somehow or something.... althoug the video card still gets power

Ohhh... I see...

That's too bad. I've seen a lot of computers that break in one way or another through transport. I hate it when that happens! That's why I always make a special trip for computer stuff ;) but I've also got a lot of stuff! :p Takes a whole trip just for that!
